Default Freestyle concentrator billing

Looking for opinions from the group re: increasing requests for Freestyle portable concentrators. Could this be considered an upgrade when billing Medicare, as it is smaller and lighter than a standard portable concentrator???? Looking to see if we could do an ABN and bill the pt an additional monthly upgrade charge???
Is anyone providing these units? Are they a feasable part of a business model...if so, what criteria do you use to screen pts???
Thanks!! Any input would be greatly appreciated.

For Medicare there is no upgrade potential when renting oxygen concentrators. Your choices would be:
  1. Take this patient unassigned which would allow you to bill the patient above the allowable amount.
  2. If the Freestyle will prevent enough cylinder deliveries then this might be the least costly alternative and it would be a good business decision.
  3. Solve the patient's portability issue with a different modality such as liquid.
