Default Traveling in a competitive bidding world

When a patient travels outside of a competitive bidding area and receives oxygen for the first time, can the claim be submitted on a non-assigned basis?

I appreciate any guidance.

Karen

Hi Karen,

No, you must accept assignment.

Under competitive bidding, payment is made based on the patient's permanent place of residence. So if the patient lives in a CBA, you will be paid at the single payment amount allotted under competitive bidding in the patient's home state, even if they temporarily travel to a non-CBA.
