Default 7 element order

Do any of you have trouble getting the detailed written order signed before billing? I know this is required by medicare before billing for item. We have some doctor offices that can take up to 2 months to receive this back for something as simple as a quad cane. This is after making several calls to their office and faxing request multiple times. Just wondering if anyone else has this same issue and maybe some suggestions as to what you have done to resolve this.

Review what information you're holding up the claim for and determine if
it's really necessary. For example, ICD9, length of need are not always
required to be on the RX.

We also don't hesitate to get the patient involved. Their doctor will be far
more responsive to them.

Unfortunately, I think we all see this from a few referral sources. I've found the best solution is timely follow-up requesting the information be sent. If they still take an extrordinary amount of time possibly sending a letter asking if there is something that you can do to make the process of completing them better. (For example including a copy of the 3x5 prescription and a detail of the verbal information you were given at intake) I've also been diligent about asking for the clinical notes to verify that the details of the visit document the order for the item. Just to make sure that you have all of your information in case of ZPIC or RAC audits. Don't hesitate to get your sales person involved in getting this info.

Thank you. That is basically what I have been doing. I just get very frustrated with one particular practice (several doctors) that just does not cooperate very well, yet they want their patients taken care of. UGH!

Or you can go to more detailed request like include in your cover sheet what u really need. Like for example i need the detailed written order for hs lt wt wheelchair i would give the doctors what diagnosis related to mobility function of the patient ex sob, oa , or icd 9 codes like 715.90 496 436 as example and i told them to be more specific on icd codes and i get good results. That way the doctor know what to do and also nurses that work with them knows what to do

Are you having difficulty getting the & element for the PMD's? If so you can make a template that really helps the doctor. However, Medicare is very strict in what items you can use on this template. I have a sample I can send you, email me at KERRY@MEDIQUICKINC.COM Also, for other DME where you need a detailed order, you can also make up a form that the doctor can sign, you can fill in alot of that information, this can be found on Medicare's site, so email me if you want this info also.
