We have provided smei electric bed to the patient on 3-18-09 for renting 13 months. he has also received pressure pad (E0181) on 09/28/10 through othe dme company for 13 months. on 01/10/12 patient wants new mattress(E0272) does medicare pay for the mattress as new item? Is it my company liable for providing new mattress? or they can go to any DME company for mattress?
Medicare will pay for new mattress for the bed. Patient can go anywhere but
that other provider will need to establish medical necessity for the hosp
bed, which you already have, presumably. So another provider might not want
to take it on.
