I understand that there are bad experiences with some billing companies. In fact that is why I opened one. I used to run my father's DME and we used a billing company that billed items we never even have to patients and they did not get our claims paid in a timely manner. So I understand the worry some have about using a billing company. That is why I do not require any contracts, as I feel if you are ever unhappy, you should have the right to terminate business with me. Also, I always recommend that any new providers bill a few claims through us to ensure they are happy and comfortable with our service. Most all payers allow more then 1 billing company at a time. I also encourage calling references, as if the billing company does not have happy providers that have been with them over 2 years, I would be leery. We have references of providers that have been with us for over 10 years. So just like when hiring someone "in house" to handle your billing, you need to do your homework and obtain references, have a trial period and make sure you are totally comfortable with that person. There are many advantages of a billing company such as, you have lower staff overhead, (such health ins, PTO, office supplies, postage, etc) not having to provide constant training, and paying a fee only on paid claims.
