Default Purchasing Question

It's practice here when purchasing to first create a written requisition and then enter a purchase order into our system (computers unlimited).

The written requisitions are lengthy, time consuming, and sometimes the written records do not match the inventory records in the system.

Ideally we're able to create PO's using mobile hand-held devices, but currently this functionality does not exist in our system.

I'd be interested to hear how others are creating purchase orders, specifically the process from identifying out-of-stock inventory to placing the order with the supplier.

Thank you.

Our software system, Fastrack Healthcare, has a purchase order model built directly into it.

From that module, you can create purchase orders based on low stock quantities or enter them manually. It also has the option to submit purchase orders directly to the vendor via EDI. When you enter the purchase order, the systems automatically generates purchase order number for you.

I know that there are other software systems that offer the same functions. To me, handwriting them manually and then entering them into the computer seems like double work!
