Question Oxygen Orders

I am needing help on identifying the correct procedure to use on oxygen equipment pick up. I understand according to the CMS manuel there are only three ways to term oxygen but, if the CMN expires/recertification (12 months) and the patient does not keep his/her appt could you not pick up your equipment? B/c you would not have current orders on this patient due to the CMN expiring. Could you have the patient sign an AMA? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, we get an AMA signed if someone wants their O2 picked up and they don't have a doctor's discharge order. If they refuse to sign the AMA then we do not pick up the equipment; rather, we bill them private pay for it. This usually motivates them to either sign an AMA or go see the doctor.
