Default DMEPOS or not

Hi all,

We currently have a DMEPOS number but because of our patient demographic (infants/children) we do not bill Medicare. Our payer mix is 70-75% Ohio Medicaid and the rest is private insurance or self pay.

Can anyone tell me if we need to hold on to the DMEPOS or is there a compelling reason to have it? We have had a Medicare provider number since long before I came here but no one really knows why.

thanks for any opinions.

Have a great day.

If you have not billed anything in a year it would be inactive. If it is still active, contact me and i can let you know profit benefits for medicare providers. kerry@mediquickinc.com

Please understand that this is strictly my opinion. First, as was previously stated, it is more than likely already inactive. Second, given your stated current market, you do not provide to Medicare beneficiaries. Third, given the times being what they are with DME and Medicare, your name says it all. "Whozleft" is what Medicare is looking at as they are slowly and painfully dismantling the DME supplier industry. If Competitive Bidding is not reversed, the current DME supplier base will be whittled down to a fraction of what it is today. My opinion is you have found your niche outside of Medicare and today, that is a good thing.
