Lost Equipment
I would first begin by changing the equipment to bill to the patient (either
a rental fee or a replacement cost). If they aren't using it and they have
not returned or called for p/u - then they will have to pay for it. This
might get them to "remember" what they did with it. Send them the bill
certified so you have proof they received it.
We had a client one time whose daughter/son in law sold our bed. He refused
to pay us for the more than fair replacement cost and said "whatever." We
contacted the police and they informed us that whoever signed for the
equipment would be the one they would be glad to "visit" with us.. In this
case it was Mr. Uncooperative's wife (the daughter of the patient). Well
once the husband was told that it would not be him, but his wife that would
be visited by the police, he changed his tune and coughed up the replacement
fee.
Check with your local police. They may tell you it is a civil matter - and
if they already have bad credit/judgments - you can bet they won't care if
yet another judgment is placed against them. Which may or may not be worth
the cost depending on the equipment in question.
Not quite a solution - just some ideas.
