Default Cpap/bipap

We have a patient that has a CPAP, did not meet Medicare guidelines during the 90-day initial period, and now is no-showing for her re-qualifying sleep study. She tells us she is still using the equipment, but we are unable to bill Medicare for it. Can we bill her? Any suggestions?

You can bill Medicare, you just won't be paid. Just have her sign an ABN specifying the reason for denial will be "patient does not meed Medicare requirements for continued coverage of CPAP equipment" and send her a bill. Her other option is to ask her physician to refer her for another sleep study, start all over and be compliant this time.
